Milestones—
We urge the Government to pass a law that bans adding iron to food. We believe that during the 1940s, there were good reasons for adding iron to food as anaemia was not well understood. Now that is not the case. In 2004, Denmark banned certain enriched products including that had added iron.
We believe adding iron to food is dangerous for hemochromatosis sufferers, for whom iron overload can cause early death, and may also be harmful for non-hemochromatosis sufferers.
