We call for e-bike riders to be required to hold a valid license in the same way as moped and light motorcycle drivers. We also call for e-bike riders to be treated equally to moped drivers for road offences under the Road Traffic Acts.
We believe the growth in e-bikes, especially dockless hire bikes & delivery riders, has made some pavements & crossings very hazardous. E-bikes on pavements & jumping red lights are dangerous for pedestrians, especially the vulnerable such as young children, elderly & disabled people. Dangerous riding of mopeds risks penalty points & losing your licence; there is no similar deterrent for e-bikes. It is also difficult to punish e-bike drivers as they are not required to hold a license.
