Studies highlight the effectiveness of GLP-1 medications for women with PCOS. We think funding access to GLP-1 treatments, without restrictive BMI criteria or tier system barriers, would improve care and outcomes for these patients.
Studies reveal that women with PCOS have higher absenteeism, increased unemployment, and a greater risk of disability retirement by age 52. Without effective preventive treatments like GLP-1, we think there is a greater burden on the NHS due to downstream complications of untreated PCOS later on. This can include diabetes, cardiovascular disease, infertility, mental health issues, and cancer. We think early intervention is essential to reduce these long-term healthcare costs on the NHS.
