Milestones—
We urge the Government to allow and require anyone working as a nanny, tutor, or babysitter to have a valid enhanced DBS check before beginning their role. We think by doing this we can create a safer environment for children.
Currently, there is no legal requirement for working in these homebased roles to have an enhanced DBS check, which we think leaves families/children vulnerable when entrusting their children to caregivers. Self-employed people are also currently unable to obtain an enhanced DBS check. We think ensuring that all individuals working closely with children are screened for a criminal history is a simple but crucial step in safeguarding their welfare.
