We urge the Government to stop making Religious Education (RE) compulsory in schools in England, and to allow it to be an optional subject from Year 10 onwards.
Many schools make RE a compulsory GCSE. We believe children who are not interested in RE could have more choice and time to spend on subjects that they are interested in. A 2023 Ofsted reports showed that the quality of Religious Education in schools was of poor quality.
