We call on the Government to amend UNECE Regulation 79 to allow greater flexibility in the safe use of car’s remote driving features.

Extending the distance limits so UK drivers can fully utilise this technology, will, we believe, improve convenience and safety while aligning with standards in other countries. Some car owners in the UK have paid extra for features that allow a car to be summoned remotely, but UNECE Regulation 79 restricts their use, limiting their range and effectiveness. We believe that this feature has been proven safe in other countries without these limits. We urge the UK Government to amend these restrictions, allowing drivers to use them fully as intended, which we believe is safe and will improve convenience and ensure fairness for those who have invested in this technology.
