We think that specifying making false allegations against whistle blowers in False/Misleading Information Offence [FOMI] under the Care Act 2014 is a must.

We consider that existing legislation has limited effectiveness in protecting whistle-blowers from retaliation. We think expanding FOMI to explicitly cover false allegations against whistle-blowers could deter known harmful behaviours. We believe this would encourage more healthcare professionals to come forward with information about safety issues, abuse, and fraud without fear of retaliation. This aligns with the overarching goal of ensuring accountability and transparency within health and care services.
