Milestones

Create an act that legally recognises tartan cloth woven in the Highland region following the precedent set by the Harris Tweed Act 1993. A Highland-based authority could be established to manage the use of the act and it could be supported by with a newly formed working group.

We think highland dress/tartan are global icons, inherently linked to the Highland region, however the manufacturing industry barely exists in the region, one mill est 2018. On the basis of reparation movements around the globe, we request that the people of the Highlands are given a protected opportunity. We believe this could drive social, environmental and economic equality to a fragile region. We also think it could increase global ethical consumerism.
