Change UK company law to ensure nominees, including investment platforms, are required to pass on voting rights and information to beneficial owners of shares or their advisers. This would allow investors or their advisers to vote their shares without obstacles or additional charges.
Some investment platforms do not pass on shareholder rights, such as the right to vote and attend meetings, or charge high fees for doing so. This may prevent retail investors having a say on the future of the company and their investments. We believe enfranchising shareholders can be easily achieved and we think it will support investor confidence and help attract capital to the UK stock market to deliver growth and prosperity.
