We urge the UK Government and Parliament to investigate how to best protect parents who are victims of human trafficking or domestic abuse, or who are otherwise vulnerable, from losing custody of their children. We think there are systemic failures in the system.
We think the review should look at amending the Modern Slavery to mandate retraining for local authority staff on handling human trafficking victims with trauma. Removing children from traumatized parents is unjust, exacerbates their suffering, and ignores the need for compassionate care. We request an urgent review to protect these families.
