The ban on plastic straws, drink stirrers and cotton buds was introduced to reduce plastic waste, but I think it has unintended consequences. For some disabled individuals, plastic straws are preferable to alternatives such as paper or metal.
I think the ban on plastic straws, drink stirrers and cotton buds fails to address the major sources of plastic pollution. I think more should be done to target industrial sources and discarded fishing gear, rather than focussing on everyday consumer items.
