Currently, a candidate for MP is not required to be registered to vote or be resident in the UK. We ask the Government to require candidates for MP be registered to vote and residents of the UK.
We believe, for an individual to be an effective elected representative for a constituency in Parliament, that they should live in that constituency or a neighbouring constituency at the very least. We also believe that they should lead by example and be an active participant in democracy by being registered to vote. We think these are very basic requirements that some citizens may expect of those seeking election.
