We think our nightlife lacks police presence from midnight to 6 AM, leaving door staff to deal with a lot if issues. They aren’t as equipped or empowered as the police. This may lead to unfair blame on venues instead of the public, risking insurance issues, and regulatory repercussions.

We think we need dedicated police support. We think the government must act to ensure public safety in the nighttime economy. Door staff—who lack police powers— may be unfairly expected to address issues. This leads to safety risks, insurance and licensing repercussions, and misplaced blame on venues instead of people. Without action we think crime and disorder could rise, deterring business and tourism. Without change we think late night licensed premises could become inoperable and local nightlife could face extinction
