I would like financial support for trainee counselling psychologists to be the same as trainee clinical psychologists: tuition fee funded and salary equivalent to NHS Band 6.

Currently trainee counselling psychologist may undertake placements within NHS for free, doing similar duties as clinical psychologist. We think there is a mental health crisis needing more psychologists to support vulnerable people, in current cost of living crisis I think it is unfair and unethical for anyone to work for free so why trainee counselling psychologist are expect to? We think the current situation may affect trainees’ well being leaving them burnout or even not completing the training. We think society needs counselling psychologists therefore it is a time to support people progressing into that career.
