Include making suicide at work a reportable incident under Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) RIDDOR regulations and procedures. Fund the HSE to investigate suicide, to issue notices and sanctions, and to bring prosecutions.

Workplaces can cause mental harm. NHS mental health services already have to support employees experiencing workplace mental harm. We think that employers causing such severe mental harm that suicide arises must be investigated, through the HSE’s RIDDOR system. We believe that this proposal could punch about its weight in value-for-money terms. We think that it would place little burden on the public purse, but could get employers to further pay attention to their mental health responsibilities.
