Milestones

We call on the UK Government to allow a national referendum on adopting a Swiss-style direct democracy system. This would give UK citizens the power to trigger referendums on laws passed by parliament and propose amendments or put forward new legislation ensuring a stronger public voice.

Switzerland’s direct democracy allows citizens to challenge government decisions by calling for referendums on laws, and propose and amend new legislation. We call on the Government to hold a UK-wide referendum on allowing Government petitions with 50,000 signatures in 100 days or 100,000 signatures in 18 months to trigger referendums. We believe the people should be allowed to vote on whether they should have a greater say in how the UK is governed.
