Milestones—
We want the Government to notify individuals of their partner's criminal record so that when a new birth is registered, parents are automatically but discreetly notified if the other parent has a criminal history of domestic abuse or child-related offences.
We think this could help safeguard children and parents from potential harm by ensuring that caregivers have further access to crucial information. Information can currently be requested through existing disclosure schemes, but we feel parents may be unaware of this or hesitant to initiate the process. We think the benefits could be: Improved child protection Greater transparency where one parent may pose a risk Reduces barriers to accessing information.
