Milestones—
We ask the Government to publish annual suicide data for armed forces veterans. We think this could help ensure transparency, improve mental health support, and prevent further loss of life by understanding the true scale of the issue.
In 2024, the ONS published data about suicide rates in UK Armed Forces veterans in 2021. It showed 253 UK veterans died by suicide—nearly 5% of all suicides in England and Wales. Yet, no consistent data has been published since 2024. Without accurate, ongoing figures, we may not be able to fully understand the scale of the crisis or target support where it’s most needed. Publishing updated data could help save lives, shape better policies, and honour those who served by ensuring no one is left behind.
