Milestones

Facilitate families to progress to larger homes by only applying stamp duty to the difference between the cost of the current home and the price of their new home. We think this would effectively give families a ‘credit note’ of the stamp duty paid and help reduce this financial barrier.

We think the current system is unethical, applies a significant tax burden to what is a necessity and increasingly confines progress to those fortunate families that can afford to spare tens of thousands of pounds in addition to the cost of moving home. By reducing this burden, applying a credit for stamp duty paid to use against a future home purchase, we think this would meet the needs of our diverse, increasingly transient population and encourage movement of the workforce.
