Increase the weight threshold on dual purpose vehicles. Increasing the weight threshold would mean they are not considered light goods vehicles and increase the speed limit that vehicles could drive on dual carriageway and single carriageway roads.
The additional emissions equipment required to achieve compliance with current guidelines, in addition to extra safety features has pushed the weight of some these vehicles to just above the now dated maximum of 2040kg. We think this maximum should be increased to allow newer double cab pickup trucks to return to the class of dual purpose vehicles and be driven at 70 on dual carriageway, 60 on single carriageway. Like older ones can and in line with cars (as they are classed by HMRC).
