We want the government to tax plastic gardening pots more highly. It is estimated that around 500 million plastic plant pots are produced every year and many end up in landfill. We think this is unsustainable and it's time we used natural alternatives to polluting plastics.
Plastic bag use at main retailers has dropped by 98% since the plastic bag charge was introduced in 2014. Government figures show the average person now buys around 2 single-use bags a year from these businesses - down drastically from 140 per year in 2014. Meanwhile, many plastic pots go to landfill each year. They can take hundreds of years to decompose. We want the government to implement a new plastic plant pot tax.
