Legislate to ensure that companies are required to hold a disability absence policy and enforce clearer and more transparent reasonable adjustments. Require large organisations to establish formal policies addressing disability-related absences.
Currently, some companies treat disability-related medical leave as sick leave, which we think may adversely affect career progression for disabled employees. While reasonable adjustments may be available as "time off for medical appointments," there is no standard requirement for how such absences should be managed, which we think leads to disadvantages for disabled individuals.
