Require school uniform policy to allow girls the right to wear skirts or trousers. I think control over the wearing of either item contravenes the Equality Act 2010 through direct discrimination of women.
I think the Department for Education should issue guidelines to schools regarding the implementation of uniform policy to require that inclusive uniform policy must permit both trousers and skirts, in line with societal and gender norms for women. I think contradictory restrictions could be imposed on girls without government clarification of guidelines. I think such gender-based discrimination causes unnecessary distress, detracting from learning, and disengaging girls from education.
