Milestones

MPs who are charged with a violent or sexual offence and are excluded from the Parliamentary estate should be automatically suspended from the House. The Recall of MPs Act should be amended so that this would trigger a recall petition ensuring local representation.

MPs who are charged with serious crimes and are excluded from the Parliamentary estate continue to receive a full salary while unable to fulfil their full duties. We believe this undermines trust in the democratic process and leaves constituents without effective representation. We believe Parliament should ensure that MPs are promptly suspended and subjected to recall, so the public has the right to act via recall petition if they choose.
