We call on the government to legislate to require all pubs to allocate 30% of their taps to independently brewed British beer, and to support publicans with the guidance to implement this change.
Independent breweries make up less than 10 percent of UK pub sales despite strong consumer demand. We believe that the tied pub system blocks access for small brewers, limiting choice and threatening local jobs. We think a 30 percent tap allocation would support small businesses, enrich pub culture, and ensure fair market access without removing existing agreements with large suppliers.
