Require local authorities to promptly remove flags that have been put up illegally in public spaces (under the Highways Act 1980), and encourage anyone wanting to display a flag to do so on their personal and private property.
The individuals who erected these flags did so without authorisation and this could amount to trespass and potentially criminal damage under the Criminal Damage Act 1971. Continued inaction raises the danger that members of the public may attempt to remove the flags themselves. This could result in confrontations, injuries, or further property damage, all of which would expose the government and local councils to liability.
