Currently in most schools the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo) role is often additional to being a full time class teacher. This should not be the case. The SENDCo should be a separate role in schools. This is becoming more important with the ever growing need in SEN and schools.
We believe it is important that the SENDCo has the time to fully commit to the role and complete the necessary jobs associated with this role. Currently full time class teachers are often given a small amount of time out of class to do this as an additional job to their class teaching job. With the ever increasing needs in SEN across the country it is vital we make this role separate to a class teacher.
