We believe UK law needs to be more flexible to allow parents to choose & amend the parental title recorded on their children’s birth certificates, to allow for two mothers/fathers. We think this is important to help formally recognise the realities of their lives and relationships.

We think this is especially for those within the LGBT+ community and their children. Lesbian and gay couples are required to go through what we feel are long and detailed processes to be registered on their child's birth certificate just as "Parent". We also believe laws on transgender parents in this context are not sufficiently specific for allowing them to be registered in line with their lived reality. A similar approach to some EU countries could be adopted, allowing for 2 mothers/fathers.
