We want the Government to mandate that car insurers must disclose how they calculate car insurance quotes. We would like to see detailed calculations, showing us all the factors, and where applicable the range of possible values for a given factor.
Car insurance prices in the UK are among the very highest in the world. Providers are currently not required to disclose any level of detail of how they calculate our quotes. This puts the insurance industry in a very strong position. We believe it allows them to approach the public with a take it or leave it attitude, stops the public from understanding contributing factors and what can be done to improve the situation, stifles competition and creates possibilities for discrimination.
