Milestones—
The Government must update election laws, governing who may stand as a UK parliamentary candidate. The new requirement is as follows; to have their name included on the ballot paper, parliamentary candidates must publish their tax returns from the previous five years, or be disqualified.
It is increasingly important that MPs are transparent as to their sources of income, to reassure voters there are no hidden conflicts of interest. It is also important that MPs are seen to pay the appropriate amount of tax, and are not using tax avoidance schemes to minimise their tax burden.
