Milestones

Raise the child benefit for full-time working parents with mortgages to match the Universal Credit child element and expand Universal Credit eligibility to include homeowners with mortgages, treating mortgage costs similarly to rent.

Child benefit is often the only additional financial support received for single-parent households. Child benefit is sometimes the only additional financial support received for single-parent households. Owning a home does not guarantee immediate financial security for children. With pending tax hikes, already disadvantaged single-parent households may see even more money taken away, which could push children of this demographic further into poverty.
