We call on the UK Government to require large online retailers to clearly display the recyclability of all product packaging, including any boxing. Labels should state whether packaging is, for example: fully recyclable, partly recyclable, biodegradable/compostable, or not recyclable.

Clear, standardised recyclability information would help consumers make informed choices, reduce waste going to landfill and incineration, and support the UK’s environmental goals. Current labelling is inconsistent, difficult to interpret, or missing entirely. A mandatory labelling standard would improve transparency, encourage more sustainable packaging design and help households to recycle correctly.
