Introduce a tax-free allowance for each dependent child under 18, in addition to the personal allowance, and ensure it is given to the parent with primary day-to-day care of the child.
We believe that the cost of raising children has risen sharply, while tax thresholds have been frozen for years, leaving families worse off even when their income has not truly increased. We therefore think that introducing an additional tax-free allowance per child under 18 years old would help parents support their children more fairly and reflect the real cost of raising a family.
