Require consumer fireworks to be sold only through the fire service, with purchasers registering in advance using valid photo ID. Profits from these sales should go towards support for firefighters and their families.
Fireworks are widely available despite their potential for misuse, antisocial behaviour and harm. Communities, animals, veterans and people with sensory sensitivities are frequently affected by unpredictable and prolonged fireworks use. Emergency services regularly respond to fireworks-related incidents, placing strain on limited resources. We think that introducing controlled access would improve accountability, reduce misuse and support safer, responsible celebrations.
