Milestones

Set legislation for National Highways and local councils to repair and make safe every pothole found on roads, dual carriageways and motorways, within a specific time frame. This should link to a transparent public national reporting system to track progress and accountability.

We pay significant taxes for road use and fuel duty. In 2023–24, the Government raised £32 billion from road-related taxes. Motorists also maintain roadworthy vehicles via MOTs yet face extra damage costs from poorly maintained roads. We believe it is time for road maintenance to become a national priority for the public’s wellbeing. Funding needs to be ring-fenced so that we have a well-maintained road network to reflect the UK’s commitment to a more sustainable society that supports economic growth.
