Introduce guidance requiring teachers in secondary schools to follow the same or equivalent uniform standards as pupils. We think this would ensure fairness, consistency and non-discriminatory enforcement of school dress codes.
Many secondary schools strictly enforce uniform rules for pupils, issuing, in our view, sanctions for minor breaches. However, teachers are often exempt and may wear clothing that would not be permitted for students. This inconsistency can feel unfair and discriminatory to pupils, undermine respect for rules, and negatively affect wellbeing. We believe applying equivalent standards could promote equality, consistency, and positive role modelling in schools.
