Milestones

Reform MPs’ financial disclosure rules so repeated late declarations automatically trigger Standards Committee referral and suspension. We believe this would ensure patterns of non-compliance have real consequences, including recall where thresholds are met.

In our view, recent cases show that MPs can repeatedly fail to declare large sums on time without serious sanction. We think treating multiple breaches as “inadvertent” undermines trust and creates the impression of unequal standards. We therefore call on clear, automatic escalation to restore accountability and allow voters to decide when confidence is lost.
