Require the Government to publicly decline any invitation for the UK to join the ‘Board of Peace’, and to set out in Parliament why the UK will instead pursue peace efforts through the UN and established multilateral institutions.
Reports say the proposed board is chaired by Donald Trump personally, with wide powers over membership, and offers longer terms on the board for countries that contribute $1bn. Some critics warn it risks undermining the UN and enabling conflicts of interest. The UK should not legitimise this and should reaffirm support for UN-led diplomacy and international law.
