The Government should set legal weather limits for outdoor work, guarantee winter pay when sites close, enforce safety standards, fund heated facilities, to strengthen worker rights and support apprenticeships to attract and retain skilled bricklayers.
We believe the Government should introduce national winter working regulations for bricklayers, including enforceable temperature and weather limits, mandatory welfare facilities, and paid weather stoppages. By improving job security, fair pay, health protections, and funding training and apprenticeships, we believe bricklaying can become a safer, more attractive long-term career, helping address labour shortages and strengthen the construction industry.
