Milestones

Make it compulsory for all housing developers to install a community public access defibrillator on all new housing estates for planning permission to be approved. Costs should be covered by estate management fees.

Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in the UK, often occurring at home or in residential areas. Survival falls by around 10% for every minute without defibrillation. We therefore call for community defibrillators to be mandatory in all new housing developments. Installed at build stage, they are low cost, reduce health inequalities, strengthen communities, and save lives.
