Milestones

We call on the Government to: 1. Move the Windrush Compensation Scheme out of the Home Office to a fully independent body. 2. Provide guaranteed, non-means-tested legal assistance for all claimants. 3. Expand the scheme to include all losses, like military pensions.

The Windrush scandal remains a profound state failure. Yet, victims are denied the same justice as Post Office and Infected Blood scandal victims. Their compensation scheme is run by the Home Office – the department that caused the scandal. It is slow, complex, and denies victims legal assistance, resulting in low offers and delayed justice. It is time to end this two-tier system of justice. The Windrush generation built Britain; they deserve the same dignity and esteem.
