Abolish fees for people who change their name on their passport due to marriage, divorce, gender reassignment, estrangement, or escaping domestic abuse, where the change is supported by official documents such as a marriage certificate or deed poll.
People changing their name must pay the full passport fee on top of the cost of marriage certificates, divorce certificates or deed polls. We feel this disproportionately affects women, who are more likely to change their surname after marriage. Changing a name on a driving licence is free, which we believe creates an unfair inconsistency across official ID. Accurate ID is essential to avoid travel issues or accusations of fraud.
