Pass a law that requires all local authorities to have a youth advisory panel. These panels could allow young people to voice their opinions, raise concerns, and offer ideas, while allowing councillors to better understand the needs of younger residents.
Youth advisory panels could attend selected meetings, submit recommendations, or be consulted on policies that impact young people. They could also contribute to council meetings and consultations. Many council decisions directly affect young people, including those relating to education, transport, public spaces, community safety, and youth services, yet we believe young people often have limited opportunities to formally share their views.
