Currently the non resident pays the resident parent. We think both parents’ income, including investments, and income, claimed from self-assessments, should be included in the child maintenance calculation, with the higher earning parent contributing more towards the costs of raising the child(ren).
As the non resident pays the resident parent, this could result in the non resident parent contributing more than they feel they can afford. Both parents are responsible for the raising of a child, so both parents should be willing to contribute towards the costs.
