We call on the Government and Parliament to recognise the impact that constant negative news coverage has on public mental health, social cohesion and trust in media. Provide funding for a dedicated Good News free broadcast channel within public service broadcasting frameworks.
We ask Government and Parliament to act because they already shape broadcasting standards. Constant negative news harms mental wellbeing and trust. We feel public institutions can support a balanced, independent Good News channel that serves the public interest. Imagine turning on the news and instead of your nervous system going into fight-or-flight, it does the opposite. People might start the day calmer. Less fear, less doom-scrolling, more perspective.
