Milestones

We ask the Government to allow main applicants on family and work visas to be able to apply for ILR after 5 years. Their dependants can remain longer routes, including the 10-year route. We believe this gives stability to working families, improves integration, and maintains immigration control.

In our view, many main applicants are already working, paying tax and meeting strict visa rules. Allowing them to gain ILR after 5 years could provide stability, reduce exploitation and help families integrate. We think dependants could still remain on longer routes to ILR, so this change would be fair, controlled and beneficial to the UK economy.
