I call on the UK Government to require a two-year guarantee on all roadworks by contractors and utility companies. Any defects such as sinking, cracking or potholes within that period must be repaired at their expense to protect taxpayers and improve standards.
As a taxpayer, I am frustrated by poor value for money. Roads are left to deteriorate until nearly undriveable, and when repairs are finally made they often fail within months. Councils and utility companies repeatedly dig up roads, yet reinstatements sink or crack, causing potholes and costly vehicle damage. Motorists already pay fuel duty and Vehicle Excise Duty. We are effectively paying twice. A two-year guarantee could help ensure accountability and longer-lasting repairs.
