Milestones

Ban all vehicle repair garages, MOT centres and similar industrial-style businesses from residential areas, Close existing ones, and strengthen enforcement powers for councils to protect residents’ safety, public health and neighbourhood quality of life.

Residential areas should provide safe and peaceful environments for families. Vehicle repair garages and MOT centres generate noise, traffic, air pollution and parking congestion that are incompatible with housing streets. This raises safety concerns, particularly for children. Such businesses are better suited to designated commercial or industrial areas where impacts can be properly managed and regulated.
