There should be clear limits on how many animals can be kept in one enclosure, and regular inspections to ensure standards are being followed. Animals should not be kept in poor conditions either on display or in back rooms.
I would like the Government to introduce stricter minimum welfare standards for animals kept in pet shops and improve enforcement of existing laws. Animals in some pet shops are kept in small enclosures without enough space, enrichment, or stimulation. I believe all animals sold in pet shops should be guaranteed clean living conditions, fresh food and water, appropriate toys or enrichment, and enough space so they are not overcrowded.
