We want the Government to create a fully independent body to oversee Ofsted inspections, with powers to review inspector conduct, investigate disputed judgements, and publish transparent outcomes. This oversight must sit outside Ofsted to ensure fairness, consistency, and public confidence.
Inspection outcomes carry serious consequences for children, staff, and services, yet there is currently no truly independent route to challenge inspector practice. Creating external oversight would improve trust, ensure decisions are evidence-based, and provide confidence that concerns about inspections are reviewed fairly, strengthening the integrity of the whole system.
